RUSSIAN BY NAME AND RUSSIAN BY NATURE, ALINA'S UNCOMPROMISING EYE EVOKES CINEMATIC EUROPEAN SENTIMENT IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM SHE CREATES.
Alina Gozin’a has spent much of her career capturing the world’s most famous faces and those bathing in the light of glory as well those hidden by the shadows of out society, giving them all a voice through the medium of art, using the same photographic treatment no matter who she shoots.
Based between Sydney and New York, this internationally acclaimed photographer, director and artist is best known for her uncompromising eye and lighting which evokes cinematic European sentiment in the photography and films she creates. Alina earned numerous awards and nominations for her photography and film work, including a nomination for the Young Director Award at Cannes Lions for her directorial debut commercial ‘3 Fat Babushkas’. International recognition for her work also culminated with a gold prize at the London Photographic Association Portraiture competition. Alina was also a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra as well as other numerous photographic competitions such as Head On, Olive Cotton, Sydney Life and Shoot the Chef.
Alina shoots “the human spirit”, a.k.a portraits. Through her celebrity portraiture she has captured Oscar winners Alicia Vikander and Emile Sherman, and Ewan McGregor, Alicia Silverstone, Sandra Oh, Anne Heche, Josh Charles, Julia Stiles, Michael Shannon, Christina Ricci, Christine Lagarde, Frank Lowy, Kevin Rudd, South Park's legends Trey Parker & Matt Stone among many others.
In her commercial work, Alina has photographed television, film, theatre, editorial and advertising campaigns for a long list of major clients such as The Australian Financial Review Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, GQ, Madame Figaro, Vogue Living, The Sydney Morning Herald, Good Weekend Magazine, The Australian Magazine, Habitus, Indesign, Monument, Company Director. She has also photographed for major brand names across a variety of arts, advertising and media industries including HBO, STAN, Tribeca Film, Universal Music, Sony Pictures, Sony Music, Warner Bros, MTV, ABC, SBS, Channel 9, Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir Theatre and Griffin Theatre, Grey (New York), Clemenger BBDO, Ogilvy, Havas, BMF.
She has also been commissioned to apply her cinematic eye to capture special architectural projects in both Australia, the USA and The Netherlands.
She has been invited to teach masterclasses at the New York Film Academy in NYC, the Australian Centre of Photography and the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
As an artist, Alina explores how important events in history can create a ripple effect across the globe resulting in major, often irreversible changes for humanity, the way we live, and the way we communicate.
Alina had her first solo exhibition LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL in NEW YORK in 2015 and AT YOUR DOOR: THE DOORMEN OF NEW YORK CITY, a large scale solo exhibition, opened in Sydney in November 2017 ( www.doormenofnewyorkcity.com ).
Her two new large scale exhibitions, HARPERS IN BLOOM and THE HARLEM STORIES OF THE HEART, both opened as solo shows in Sydney in October and November 2018.
THE LAST SNOW OF NEW YORK, Alina’s forth large scale solo exhibition, is opening in March 2018.
She is set to direct a drama film, based on her original idea, in 2019.
