Hey there! Thanks for visiting my page. People call me Smokey (long story) and I photograph because I can't paint. When I was 15, I came across a portrait of Sartre by Henri-Cartier Bresson and that's how the obsession with photographing the human spirit started. I give it my all to capture the most private folds of one’s DNA without asking any questions or doing any research.
Just like you, I'm obsessed with so many things, it impossible to narrow it down but if I had to pick, I'd say I definitely can't live without my family and friends, New York, morning coffee, cinema, Smalls in West Village, theatre, Otto Dix, BBC radio, the sound of French and Italian, Nina Simone (nothing better than her), Rachmaninov (genius), The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac & Eminem (legends) and all other tunes I'm crazy about; then there is Louis Kahn, Kieslowski, Messerschmidt, The Dick Cavett show, Kundera and Richard Ford, Dostoevsky, Tarkovsky, Woody Allen, Malle, Scorsese, Oprah and so much more! But above all I can't live without my mum's borsch! Mum Rules!
Below is a blurb written by my lovely representation....read on or better still, skip it and check out my work! Merci & see you around
“RUSSIAN BY NAME AND RUSSIAN BY NATURE, ALINA'S UNCOMPROMISING EYE EVOKES CINEMATIC EUROPEAN SENTIMENT IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM SHE CREATES”.

She is known for her ability to capture human spirit in a raw and arresting way; her cinematic lighting evokes European sentiment in the works she creates.
As a guest speaker on various panels, Alina is often invited to talk about trust and vulnerability, something she learnt about through her photoshoots of industry leaders, high profile personalities as well as those living in the shadows of our society.
